Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme 2024

The government of West Bengal has launched the West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme to provide basic income support to the female heads of the family. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide Rs 500 per month to general category families and Rs 1000 per month to SC/ST families. Nearly 1.6 crore households in West Bengal will benefit from this scheme.

This Scheme has been launched by keeping in mind the state’s monthly average consumption expenditure of a household which is Rs 5249. With the help of the financial support provided through this scheme, 10% to 20% of the monthly expenditure of a beneficiary will be covered. The benefit amount under this scheme will be directly deposited into the bank account of the beneficiaries.

Separate Counters To Apply Laxmi Bhandar Scheme

The government has also set up dedicated counters for the application of this scheme at Duare Sarkar camps. Swasthya Sathi scheme and caste certificate are the second and third most sought-after schemes respectively after the Laxmi Bhandar scheme. 

The Duare Sarkar initiative was launched last January to deliver government services at the doorsteps of citizens of West Bengal. The most number of applications were received from South 24 Parganas. A total of 471887 applications were received from South 24 Parganas in the first two days for all the schemes. Other schemes which are a part of this initiative are as follows:-

Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme Eligibility

The guidelines and rules for the West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar scheme have been announced by the government of West Bengal. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide a monthly allowance of Rs 500 to poor families. Families who belong to scheduled castes and scheduled Tribes will get a monthly allowance of Rs 1000.

The eligibility and other criteria to get the benefit of the scheme have been issued by the department of women and child development and social welfare on 30th July 2021. This scheme came into force on 1st September 2021.

All the eligible female heads of the family will get basic income support under this scheme. The financial benefit will be directly transferred into the bank account of the beneficiary. Around 1.60 m households of West Bengal will benefit from this scheme.

Rules And Guidelines Of West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme

• The amount of benefit under this scheme has been started from September 2021
• Beneficiaries can get free Application forms from the government camps which are held across the state
• Applicant can make apply from 16th August 2021 to 15 September 2021
• All the applicants are required to submit all the required documents which include an Aadhar card, bank account passbook along with the application form
• Those families who have at least one tax-paying member cannot apply under this scheme
• General category women who have more than 2 hectares of land also can not apply under this scheme
• The benefit amount will be directly credited into the bank account of the beneficiary
• The Aadhaar number of the beneficiary should be linked with the bank account
• Those women of West Bengal who are permanent residents and whose age is between 25 to 60 years can apply under this scheme
• Women who have permanent jobs in the private and government sectors cannot take benefit of this scheme
• Casual workers can also apply under this scheme.

1.23 Million People Applied Under Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme

In order to provide basic income support to the female head of the family, the government of West Bengal has launched the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. Under this scheme more than 1.23 million people have successfully registered. Through Duare Sarkar camps 1226611 citizens of West Bengal have applied under this scheme. Rs 500 per month are provided to the general category female heads and Rs 1000 per month is provided to SC and ST family female heads through West Bengal Laxmi Bhandar School. The district administrators have also instructed the officials to educate people about this scheme so that all the eligible beneficiaries can take a benefit of this scheme.

In Phase 2 Most Application Received Under Laxmi Bhandar

The second phase of the Duare Sarkar Project Camp has been organized by the West Bengal government. These camps was organized from 16 August 2021 to 15 September 2021. Through these camps, citizens applied under various schemes offered by the state government. Over the first two days 18,500 camps were organized in which 29,02,049 people participated. According to the official sources, the most sought-after scheme was the West Bengal Laxmi Bhandar scheme which offers Rs.500 monthly income support to women heads of General families and Rs.1000 monthly income support to women heads of SC or ST families. More than 60% of applications have been received under this scheme through these camps.

Deadline Of Duare Sarkar Camps To Be Extended If Required

The government of West Bengal has started the process of rolling out its largest cash transfer scheme which is Lakshmi Bhandar. Thousands of women across the state have enrolled under this scheme. Through this scheme, a direct benefit transfer of Rs 500 per month to women of the general category and Rs 1000 per month to women from the reserved category is provided. This scheme was a poll promise of Trinamool Congress. Recently the government is organizing the third phase of the Duare Sarkar camp. Most applications received through Duare Sarkar camps are for West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme.

• Many people are gathering in these camps to apply under this scheme. Scenes of crowds were also reported.
• The chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has requested people to not make crowds at the camps and she has also suggested that if the need is felt to extend the deadline of Duare Sarkar Camos the government is going to extend the duration of these camps.

Rs. 1100 Cr To Be Spent Per Month For Implementation Of Scheme

The Duare sarkar camps started on 16th August 2021. After almost a week nearly 1 crore people have visited these camps till August 23, 2021. The total footfalls at Duare Sarkar camps were 97.79 lakh till 23rd August 2021 and on 24th August alone 17.24 lakh people have visited these camps. It is expected that nearly 2 crore women will enroll themselves in the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme through these camps. Rs 1100 crore will spend per month for the implementation of the West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar scheme and the number of beneficiaries may be up to 1.6 crores. Only those families that have a government job or pension cannot apply under this scheme.

• To prevent forgeries the government of West Bengal has decided to give forms for this scheme through the Duare Sarkar camps.
• A unique identification number is generated on the basis of the Aadhar number of the beneficiaries and forms for the scheme are distributed on the basis of this number. Around 2100 camps are organized throughout the state.

Budget and Database Of West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme

Under this scheme, every household from the SC and ST community will be included. For the general category, the government has decided on eligibility criteria. The government has allocated a budget of Rs 12900 crore for this scheme. West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme was also a part of the election manifesto of the Trinamool Congress.

Direct Bank Transfer To Beneficiaries Of Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme

The state finance department of West Bengal has started direct benefit transfer under the Lakshmi Bandar scheme from 1st September 2021. All those women who have applied under this scheme will receive monthly financial assistance which ranges from Rs 500 to 1000 in their bank accounts. This scheme was the election manifesto of the Trinamool Congress. All those women who do not have a government job and are in the age group between 25 to 60 years will get the benefit of this scheme. Till 31st August 2021, there are about 1.1 crore applications that are received under the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme.

• It is expected that around 2 crore women will benefit from this scheme. The DBT facility will be rolled out from 1st September 2021 and scrutiny of the application is still on. After submitting the application form, the beneficiary will be provided with an acknowledgment slip.
• After proper verification money will be transferred into the bank account of the beneficiary. All the beneficiaries can check the receipt of the amount from their banks. The banks will start functioning full-time from 2nd September 2021.
